Mike Galbreth is a Professor of Business Analytics, the Pilot Corporation Chair of Excellence, and the Head of the Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the Haslam College of Business. He holds a B.S. from the University of Tennessee and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. Prior to joining the Haslam College, he was a Professor of Management Science at the University of South Carolina, where he also served as Chair of the Management Science Department. Mike has taught a wide variety of MBA, PhD, and undergraduate courses and was a seven-time winner of the MBA outstanding professor award at USC. He has also taught MBA courses at Vanderbilt University, Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and Chonnam National University (South Korea).
Mike’s research activities are currently focused on the circular economy, retail operations, consumer returns, and the interface between marketing and operations. In 2010 he was named a Fulbright Scholar for his work on reverse logistics, serving as the Fulbright Enders Visiting Research Chair at McGill University. He is a former Department Editor at Journal of Operations Management and currently serves as a Senior Editor for the Department of Sustainable Operations at Production & Operations Management and the co-Department Editor for Retail Operations at Decision Sciences. His research has appeared in Management Science, Marketing Science, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Decision Sciences, Quantitative Marketing & Economics, INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics, and others. He is a frequent columnist in the Reverse Logistics Magazine, a leading industry publication with a global readership of reverse logistics practitioners. Prior to returning to academia, he worked as a software developer and implementation consultant, most recently as a manager in the Atlanta office of KPMG Consulting.
